Menaul School Partnership

Menaul School Classes & Panther Fencing Team
Middle & Upper School
Menaul School is a faith-based, independent, coeducational, college preparatory school for students in grades 6-12.
- Elite Fencing Program with Expert Coaching: Menaul School has partnered with Duke City Fencing to offer the first high school residential program in the USA with an elite-level fencing program designed to foster competition success and enhance college admission applications. Students train 5 days a week under the guidance of three time Olympian and Fencing Master Courtney Hurley — receiving personalized coaching and expert training that helps them excel both in the sport and in the college admissions process. The program is currently Epee-only but plans to expand to include foil and saber in 2028. Menaul also offers a day-school option and encourages parents to consider relocating their entire family to Albuquerque to be part of the fencing program experience.
- NCAA Opportunities and College Admissions Advantage: Fencing is recognized as a sport by the NCAA, with Division I schools offering scholarships at universities such as the University of Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State, and Stanford. Even in Division III and Ivy League schools, such as Princeton, Harvard, Yale, and Columbia, fencing serves as a valuable bonus in the admissions process, giving students an edge in applying to these prestigious institutions.
Flexible Academic Schedule for Balanced Success: Menaul School provides a college-preparatory yet flexible academic schedule that allows students to train intensively and travel for competitions. This unique setup ensures that students can excel academically while also pursuing their athletic goals, whether they are day or residential students.
Albuquerque’s Unique Training Environment: Albuquerque’s high-altitude location offers ideal conditions for endurance training, providing a distinct advantage for athletes. The city’s geographical and cultural environment also fosters a stimulating atmosphere for both academic and athletic development, giving Menaul students a competitive edge in their training.
Tuition-Free Access to New Mexico Public Universities: Graduates of Menaul School are eligible for the New Mexico Lottery Scholarship, which allows them to attend any New Mexico public college or university, such as the University of New Mexico, tuition-free. This benefit applies even if their parents are not residents of the state, offering a significant financial advantage for students pursuing higher education.
